About me

Who I am

My name is Hans Jörg Bayer, and my career has been as varied as my life. I started an apprenticeship as a car mechanic at the age of 14, but my curiosity and desire to try out new things led me in many different directions. I worked as an assembly line worker at Audi, was a surf instructor, truck driver and warehouse worker. This diversity shaped my experiences and ultimately led me to my path as a freelancer.

At the age of 30, I took the plunge into self-employment and took over a petrol station with an attached workshop. At this time, with the marriage of my wonderful wife and the birth of my son, a new phase in my life began – one that was characterized by more consistency and focus. After seven successful years, however, there was another turning point.

It was more by chance that my hobby at the time, model flying, became my profession. In 1998, I founded a company to manufacture large scale model airplanes. Thanks to an innovative manufacturing and construction technique that I developed myself, this company became a great success. I had to build a large CNC milling machine, which brought me into contact with CAD for the first time.

Through painstaking self-study, I learned the CAD program TurboCAD, which was the only affordable option for me at the time. To help others, I founded the TurboCAD forum on the CAD.de platform in 2000. When my model making ideas were copied again and again, I decided to make a virtue out of necessity in 2005. I founded the TurboCAD Training Center turbocadkurse.de to teach my customers CAD drawing. Over the years, I have written several textbooks and training DVDs and have also repeatedly designed for other customers.

I have been working closely with the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) since 2014. Among other things, I have developed the MANTrAS measuring missile and the CAMOS and PAMOS measuring systems and built prototypes for them. This work also led to several patents.

From 2019, another exciting job came up: I work for various racing teams, mainly in chassis and engine development. This experience flows directly into my current project: the replica of a Ford GT40 MKIV, which combines my passion for technology, motorsport and precision craftsmanship.

Special thanks go to my wonderful wife, who has always supported me. Without her patience, understanding and support, my life would certainly have taken a different course. She is a central part of my success and fulfillment.
